South Africa - April 2007 We have arrived!

On Saturday, April 6th, 2007, SOIS MLIS students Reagen Thalacker, Alissa LaChapelle, Rebecca Buchman, and SOIS Academic Staff member Rebecca Hall arrived in Pretoria, South Africa to assist with IFLA’s Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (FAIFE) 2007 World Report.

We are all very excited to be here and feel very fortunate to be a part of this project. We arrived late afternoon on Saturday (April 6th) and spent the first few days getting acquainted with the area. We are staying in very nice accommodations right next to the University of Pretoria campus and just a few blocks away from Hatfield (a college community filled with shops, restaurants, bookstores and cafes).

The area is very nice and the weather has been beautiful. (We are all very sorry to hear about the snow storms rolling thru the Midwest. We hope everyone stays warm and safe). So as I was saying, the weather is great, it’s been sunny and in the high 70s low 80s each day.

As the project progresses, we will continue to post our activities to this blog. Please feel free to send us questions or comments. We’d be happy to hear from you. (Oh, did I mention that it’s sunny and warm here? Oh, yeah, that’s right, I did mention that!)

Warmest :) Regards!
